We are looking for a qualified phlebotomist to work in our GP surgery.
The post is for 16 hours a week, to be worked Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30pm to 2:30pm
The Medical Centre Group has two sites: Main site at Shepway and branch location at Grove Green with total of over 15000 patients.
Expected competencies to include, but not limited to:
Blood tests and phlebotomy, Gathering lifestyle data from patients, Blood pressure check, Height and weight check, Urinalysis and preparation of specimens, Infection control and equipment management, duties like fridge temperature checks, stock check etc
You will be supported by the nursing team within the Practice, Phlebotomist will be responsible for delivering a phlebotomy service within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, compliant with laboratory standards, whilst adhering to infection control standards. They will focus upon providing a safe phlebotomy service, supporting patients, taking routine blood tests from different age groups, as requested by clinicians, maintaining clinically accurate records of consultation on EMIS clinical system. You will work collaboratively with the general Practice team to meet the needs of patients.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Post:
Main Duties:
Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and gaining consent for the collection of a blood sample
Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
Checking patient identification against GP / nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with Practice procedure
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
Notifying the GP / Nurse of any significant patient issues
Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
Support and participate in shared learning within the Practice
Confidentiality: Ensure that all confidentiality, data protection and information governance policies and guidelines are followed and strictly adhered to, reporting any infringements to the appropriate person immediately.
Personal / Professional Development: The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment.
Quality: The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the Practice.
Communication / Information: The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the Practice and management team.
Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post.
