You are invited to join our dynamic, innovative and welcoming practice providing primary care, at Frome Medical Practice. This is an exciting opportunity at any stage of your medical career.

We have a supportive and collaborative team of over 20 GPs and 150 staff. We are a large and modern, purpose built practice with a patient population of just under 30,000 and operate as a single site Primary Care Network.

We are proud to have received National Awards for Sustainability and our Green Impact work and have also been nationally recognised for our outstanding Health Connections (social prescribing) programme, which is based within the practice. As a high-performing and successful practice we have been accepted to join the new PCN Pilot Programme working with NHSE which will also provide exciting opportunities to shape and develop clinical pathways.

The large number of GPs creates a collaborative and friendly atmosphere, and spending time together in daily coffee breaks, discussing cases in team meetings, and socialising is highly encouraged and ingrained in our work culture. This is supported by a dedicated complex care team which manages all home visits and hospital discharges, as well as nurse practitioners, a mental health nurse practitioner, a first contact physiotherapist, and a large dedicated pharmacy team.

Externally, we have strong relationships with our local community and local healthcare providers and are situated next to the local community hospital, where we collaborate in overseeing our community ward, as well as providing sessions for other local services such as fracture clinic.

We are a recognised Learning Organisation with a strong focus on GP Education and development which would be great support for a newly qualified GP.  We are also a GP Training practice where many of our registrars choose to stay on with us and benefit from our mentoring scheme. We would welcome applications from newly qualified GPs or due to qualify before summer 2025.

We are a Disability Confident practice and registered Mindful Employer.

Relocation packages up to £8,000.00 may be available subject to ICB criteria and approval.

In our recent NHSE PCN Pilot survey 100% of our GP Team said the worked well as a team, with 75% strongly agreeing,

We were also the highest ranked PCN for "positive experience of working in Primary Care" across our whole team.

Here’s what some of the team have said about working at Frome Medical Practice

“On completion of my GP training, I decided to stay on at Frome Medical Practice because whilst it is a large practice, it feels like a friendly well supported place to work. Whether it be the daily coffee break, regular team meetings, or sharing the duty on call with another GP, there is always help available, and we are not working in isolation. A strength of the size of the practice is the level of admin support, which enables clinicians to get on and spend more quality time with patients and deliver a better level of care. It is also a place to branch out and progress a GP portfolio or career – the surgery has supported me to take on more managerial responsibilities, set up enhanced services such as a community fracture clinic and minor surgery lists, as well as deliver education, supervision and training to GP/Nurse colleagues and trainees." - Dr James Cundell

“What brought me to FMP was the idea that a community can ban loneliness and so improve health (measured by referrals to hospital) across the board. I wanted to be part of that.” - Dr Susie Macdonald

“My mother-in-law had sent me a link to (Senior Partner) Helen Kingston’s Radio 4 interview about Compassionate Frome a few years ago, so when I moved to the area, FMP was already on my radar – probably the only GP practice I’d ever heard of through reputation! When I looked around the practice, met some of the staff and watched resources on the practice website I was impressed by how innovative and forward thinking the practice’s vision was. I was interested in the social prescribing and green work, and excited by the prospect of working somewhere it feels is leading the way in General Practice. I was also attracted by the fact there were lots of other young GPs at a similar career stage to myself, many of whom had trained here as registrars, which felt like a good sign!” - Dr Angus Lean

“I applied to work at FMP attracted by their innovative work in sustainable health care and their well developed social prescribing networks. I have been given exciting opportunities to help with their contribution to the kindness festival and more recently a project on deprescribing in collaboration with Green and Healthy Frome. The team is well led and allows for creative working on projects with lots of scope for my professional development.” - Dr Georgie Kirby

“I have long been aware of the reputation of Frome Medical Practice as a flagship practice in the South West. Their pioneering work on social prescribing and The Green Agenda has transformed the way we think about health and wellbeing within our communities. I am so excited to join the team.” - Pernille Johansen, Lead Nurse
