Ashgrove Medical Group covers two sites at Ashgrove Surgery, Pontypridd, and Penrhiwceiber Medical Centre, Mountain Ash. We are highly-respected training practice in the heart of the Welsh Valleys. With a patient population of circa 20,000 patients including a student population from the University of South Wales. Our goal is to grow our established training abilities by becoming a centre of excellence whilst simultaneously providing the highest quality of Primary Care services. As well as placing a strong emphasis on education & training, the practice is also a high-tiered research centre with a purpose built research facility. We offer the majority of enhanced services including joint injections, gender identity services, DOAC initiation and monitoring and minor ops as well as holding the contracts for Cwm Taf and Cardiff & Vale for vasectomy services due to the fact that we have our very own operating theatre. We also provide Occupational Health services and a private Aesthetics clinic. The practice boasts an excellent and highly professional team of 7 GP Partners, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 6 salaried GPs, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Pharm Techs, 5 highly trained nurses (inc prescriber and minor illness), 2 HCAs, 1 Phlebotomist all complimented by a supportive reception and administration team.

The role suits both those looking for a more settled career path to those wanting to have some stability whilst planning their future. Each position is unique and we would like to invite GPs looking towards their future to have a discussion with us to determine the path that best suits you.

Working patterns are designed to allow flexibility and the development of specialist interests and/or a portfolio career.

Our standard GP clinical session is 15 appointments with a mix of book-on-the-day telephone slots, pre-bookable slots (patient choice of telephone or face-to-face), and eConsults.  Each session has several slots blocked for use only by the GP if a telephone consultation needs to be converted to face-to-face.

We have one GP each day as ‘Duty’. They start the day with an empty template, which is populated with acute problems to telephone triage once all other on the day slots are full.  The duty GP is usually supported by a Duty Nurse, who manages acute minor illness. The duty role is allocated pro rata to number of sessions worked and therefore would be usually less than once per week.

Prescription queries and acute requests are all managed by our pharmacy team.
