The role of Practice Nurse is to deliver Enhanced Access clinics in the Coastal West Sussex area for patients of local practices.

Job summary:

In this role the Nurse will be responsible for the provision of safe and effective primary care appointments, with full access to patient medical records. Our team of clinicians provide weekday evening and weekend appointments to local patients referred by their own GP surgery. The post holder will take a pro-active approach to their own CPD, contribute to continually improving the clinical effectiveness of the clinics and work collaboratively and supportively with all colleagues.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide treatment room services and others, dependant on Tier level. To include cytology.
  • Not limited to but additional skills of benefit would be: wound care, swabs, family planning, pill checks, CDM reviews (Asthma, COPD, Diabetes), ear syringing.
  • Undertake opportunistic screening including BP, height, weight, BMI, urinalysis, smoking status and alcohol intake.
  • Offer education and motivation for patients to change unhealthy behaviour through recognising a patients readiness to change.
  • Ensure that infection control standards are consistently met.
  • Be competent in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of child abuse and be aware of local and statutory procedures.
  • Administration and paperwork arising directly from this caseload (record-keeping, other written communications with local GP surgeries as required).
  • Contribute to team meetings, contributing to discussion of clinical practice standards, developing protocols and providing mutual professional support for colleagues.
  • Personal CPD (continuing professional development), a mix of in-house events, private study and external educational events
  • The above list is not exhaustive and, if appropriate, responsibilities can include specialist services such as Spirometry, Coil and Implant fitting for an appropriately qualified candidate

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in a GP surgery or similar care setting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Cytology

Desirable

  • Previous experience using EMIS and/or SystmOne

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registration and Nurse qualification

  • Full driving licence with the use of vehicle
