Lydden Surgery

Lydden Surgery is a forward thinking, friendly and well established practice which moved from River to our current purpose built premises in the picturesque village of Lydden in October 2011. We are a rural dispensing practice.

Our diverse multidisciplinary practice team comprises: General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, two Heath Care Assistants, Dispensers, Medical Secretaries, Administrators and Receptionists. We are proud to be a Training Practice both for training doctors and trainee GPs: we are committed to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We operate a total triage model: our doctor led triage team of Care Navigators triage all requests for clinical assistance in order to direct patients to the most appropriate clinician within the correct timeframe.

We offer a range of services including home visits for housebound patients who cannot attend the practice, a range of nursing clinics and services such as chronic disease management, blood tests, ECGs, dressings, blood pressure testing, warfarin clinics, hypertension clinics and NHS health checks. Our clinical system is EMIS web

We provide an extended range of Enhanced Services offering the potential to be involved and/or develop specialist clinical skills.

We are supported by the Primary Care Network Social Prescribers, First Contact Physiotherapy and Clinical Pharmacist Team. The Clinical team are supported by a well-led and trained administrative team whose sole focus is to minimise the administrative burdens on clinicians whilst optimising patient care.

The practice participates in the PCN Patient Participation group. We have dispensing services, online appointment booking and electronic transfer of prescriptions.

We are looking for a permanent Salaried GP here at Lydden help provide holistic, patient centred continuity of care for our patients

This will be for 6 sessions a week working over 3 days. The successful candidate will ideally need to be available from September 2024.

Terms and conditions will be in line with the BMA.

Salary is dependent on experience.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations/triage, e-consult and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, recording clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes to agreed standards;
  • Collecting data and participating in Practice audits
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions and prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.
  • Provide reports for employers, solicitors and insurance companies and complete medical certificates, benefit agency forms etc. Ensure that all work carried out which carries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for.
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg, prescribing, safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, QOF Assessment, CQC regulation.
  • Maintaining and updating PDP.
  • Attending training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Meet all tight deadlines to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)
  • The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:
  • Communicate effectively with other team members;
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers;
  • Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
  • The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A vocationally trained and accredited GP, preferably with MRCGP.
  • A good knowledge of and interest in general practice and primary care.
  • Current registration with the GMC.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in triage would be of great benefit.
  • A good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process.

As we are a rural practice, a current valid driving licence would be essential.
