Ashgrove Surgery is highly respected for the clinical services and multi-professional training environment it provides in the heart of the Welsh Valleys. Care is provided for the patient population of circa 20,000 patients across our Pontypridd and Penrhiwceiber sites. Our student population at the University of South Wales can also access care through the university health centre. Our goal is to grow our established training abilities by becoming a centre of excellence whilst simultaneously providing the highest quality of Primary Care services. As well as placing a strong emphasis on education & training, the practice is also a high-tiered research centre with a purpose built research facility.
We offer the majority of enhanced services including joint injections, gender identity services, DOAC initiation and monitoring and minor ops as well as holding the contracts for Cwm Taf and Cardiff & Vale for vasectomy services in our operating theatre. We also provide Occupational Health services and a private Aesthetics clinic.
The practice boasts an excellent and highly professional team of 7 GP Partners, 6 salaried GPs, a Physician Associate, 4 Pharmacists, 2 Pharmacy Technicians, 5 highly trained nurses (inc prescriber and minor illness), 3 HCAs, 1 Phlebotomist all complimented by a supportive reception and administration team.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing services to the practice population across both sites, supervised and supported by senior nurses within the practice. They will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring chronic conditions, and providing health prevention and screening activities.
They will support the nursing manager in the supervision of non-registered nursing staff and the training of undergraduate nurses and the wider general practice team.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
The role will involve flexible working hours.
The post holder will:
- Be responsible for the management of a group of patients with regard to Chronic Disease Management, Women’s Health, Screening, Immunisations, wound care, and other treatment room duties.
- Be responsible for maintaining the standards of patient care set by primary care
- Be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are observed
- Be responsible for the support and supervision of non-registrant nursing staff i.e. HCSW’s and Phlebotomist
- Be responsible for providing accurate, current, comprehensive and concise records concerning the condition of the client
- Liaise with the appropriate Clinical Specialists i.e. GPs, practice teams and nursing team, in relation to individual patient requirements.
- Work in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrate good organisational skills with responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective use of human and financial resources.
