Role: BMBS Module Lead for Professionalism
Faculty and School: Faculty of Health, Peninsula Medical School
Time: 3 PA / 12 hours per week
Tenure: 3-years fixed term with potential to renew
Base: Plymouth North Campus (John Bull Building)
This is an exciting opportunity for a practicing clinician to take a lead role within Plymouth Medical School, taking forwards our well-developed Professionalism Module. This role could suit someone already embedded within the School but we would welcome someone not previously involved who has interest and experience in medical education, keen to help students develop professional skills. Professionalism is embedded across our curriculum and encompasses skills in ethical thinking, patient-centredness, communication and teamworking, organization and reflective practice. Plymouth Medical School has a strong reputation for promoting excellent Professionalism skills which prepare students for future practice.
The post-holder will work with the Director of Professionalism, clinicians and academics in the Professionalism strand of the curriculum across Years 1-5 of the programme The post is based in Plymouth but occasional travel to sites in Torbay and Taunton may be required.
Please see attached job description for full details but main areas of responsibility include:
- To oversee and monitor the assessment of Professionalism as Assessment Module Lead, identifying effective ways of addressing problems.
- Working closely with the undergraduate team and administrative support to ensure smooth running of assessment; appropriate response to concerns; and support for students in difficulty.
- To lead the development of new approaches to promote professionalism learning to students and staff and ensure the professionalism curriculum integrates with key national agendas, including revalidation for doctors, F1 and F2 requirements and the NHS Leadership Framework.
- Staying abreast of literature and evidence in medical education, to support the development of assessment methods that include reflective practice and a student managed portfolio for medical students.
- Responding to concerns raised around Professionalism and, where appropriate, meeting with students.
- Working with clinical teachers where appropriate, and ensuring assessors understand Professionalism assessment.
