Introduction

This half day training programme is designed as an update for those nurses or HCAs who have already completed an influenza training course in the previous season. Upon completion of the course the clinician will have revisited their knowledge and skills in administration of influenza vaccination, updated on the guidance and have the latest information from the Department of Health for the forthcoming season’s campaign.

Learning Outcomes

  • Revisit medicine management and use of patient specific directives
  • Understand the influenza programme for this season
  • Explore immunology and how vaccinations work

NB: ‘This immunisation training course has been approved by PHE/NHS England South West Screening and Immunisation Team as conforming to the national minimum standards for immunisation training’

We are delighted that BSW Training Hub have agreed to fund this course, for eligible staff working in General Practice in, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire (BSW).  However, sadly some of your colleagues have previously booked places and not attended, preventing others from doing so.  If you are unable to attend this course, please notify us, by email, at least 2 weeks before the course to cancel your place.  Please Note: If you do not cancel your place, and do not attend, you will be charged full Member rate.

Trainer

Your trainer will be either Julia Judd or Julia O'Mara from J2S Training

Julia Judd qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1989 and has enjoyed a diverse career working in the emergency department and acute surgical wards before settling on a career in primary care. Since 1994 Julia has worked in General Practice, building her portfolio of skills to include practice nursing and management of long term conditions. As her career developed she later extended her role becoming a nurse practitioner and independent prescriber.

Julia continues to work as a Nurse Practitioner in a large inner city practice in Portsmouth City, maintaining her own professional skills and acknowledging the increasing demands and burden placed on Primary Care services.

Julia O'Mara qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1989, and has experience in many fields of nursing and teaching. Julia has been working in Primary care in 1994 where she developed skills in practice nursing, long term conditions, first contact, history taking and assessment skills and independent nurse prescribing.

Currently Julia has a leading role as The Nurse Advisor for Portsmouth City Clinical Commissioning Group. This role involves listening to the views of the nurses in the city and looking at ways to improve services and delivery of care. At a strategic level Julia manages and chairs the Professional Practice Nurse Forum, co-chairs the Non-Medical Prescriber’s Forum and has an instrumental role in practice nurse education and development through TARGET.
